Health care professionals recognize that a combination of three steps for scar treatment is proven to assist healing and to improve the appearance of scars. A properly managed program of regular massage helps to reduce adhesions, discoloration and sensitivity. Moisturization helps the new skin layers regain mobility and flexibility. Gently applying prolonged pressure using a high-quality silicone gel sheet helps to compress and flatten the scar.

When massaging your scar it is important always to use a high quality lubricating oil or lotion such as
SacredEarth™ Botanicals, formulated specifically for deep tissue massage. A high quality massage oil or lotion adds necessary lubricants to the new scar tissue and makes massaging newly formed scar tissue more comfortable. In addition to improving the effectiveness of scar tissue massage, SacredEarth™ Botanicals also provide moisturization, which is necessary to prevent scars from reopening or becoming brittle and to support healthy healing. Moisturized skin and scar tissue is less likely to contract or adhere to surrounding tissue. Regular massage with high quality products therefore prevents reduced flexibility
of the tissue.
Massaging with the SkinSational™ massager provides a superior, non-abrasive
massage that loosens the deep tissue. When used with SacredEarth massage oil or lotion, the combination helps moisturize and soften the new scar. At the same time massage using the SkinSational helps relieve adhesions or bands of scar tissue that can restrict motion below the skin’s surface. Massage also helps to flatten scars and aids in reducing sensitivity and pain.
CAUTION: Massage should not be performed over stitches, open wounds or over scabs. Massage therapy can be started after stitches or other wound closures are removed and your health care provider indicates that you may begin therapeutic massage.

The use of medical-grade silicone gel sheets such as Gel Mate™, is proven
to flatten scars, reduce redness and itching. Using silicone gel sheeting also reduces the formation of hypertrophic or thickened scar tissue. Even though
the effectiveness of silicone gel sheets has been proven in numerous studies
to safely improve the appearance and quality of scars, it is not completely understood how exactly silicone gel works.
Gel Mate hydrates the area covered by silicone gel and applies a consistent, gentle pressure on the scar as it heals. This light pressure has the therapeutic effect of softening scar tissue which improves the appearance of the scar. Softer scar tissue has better skin mobility and flexibility where a scar crosses
a joint. Silicone gel sheets, unlike topical gels dispensed from tubes, applies the gentle, steady pressure referred to in medical studies, which affects the production and alignment of the collagen in scars.
Gel Mate silicone gel is self-adherent on one side. It is tacky to the touch
and therefore adheres to the skin, generally without the need for tape or
wraps to hold it in place. A soft, silky cloth covers the outer layer to make it easy to wear under clothes as fabrics glide over this cloth with minimal
friction. Gel Mate is washable with soap and water and with proper care,
can be used for weeks of treatment.
